Mediation centres for Haryana and Punjab (17 May 2008)
Ten Mediation Centres will be opened in 10 districts of Haryana and Punjab, each to promote alternate dispute resolution mechanism for the speedy delivery of justice.

Madras HC asks Southern Railway to use arbitration (10 Apr 2008)
The Madras High Court today directed the General Manager, Southern Railway,Chennai to settle the differences and disputes between a contractor and the Chief Project Manager(CPM) and the Chief Administrative Officer, Metropolitan Transport projet (MRTS) through arbitration, within three months from the date of commencing the procedings.

Almost 47,000 cases pending in the Supreme Court (03 Mar 2008)
A total of 46,926 cases were pending in the Supreme Court on 31st December, 2007. In the 21 High Courts across the country 37,00,223 cases were pending as on 30.9.07. Of these 30,00,118 were civil cases and 7,00,115 were criminal cases.

Inaugurating a one-day seminar on "Dispute Settlement and Protection of Consumer Rights in the Telecom and Broadcasting Sectors", organised by the Telecom Dispute Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT), Justice B Sudershan Reddy said opening these sectors to unrestricted competition in India and convergence of technologies with rapid advancements give rise to complex issues in disputes.
